Lagos Poem by SylvaOnyema (SUPER.T) Ubah

Lagos

Rating: 5.0

Lagos
City on the Island
Wet and weary
With broken flood
Swallowing broken roads

Lagos
City on flyovers
Scattered with bridges
Blinded by the web
Of under bridges
Harboring tenants
Of destitute and scavengers
Paying rents to
The beastly 'area-boys'

Lagos
The warehouse
Of epileptic black out
Wearing the mask of decay

Lagos
The undisputed noisy city
Of 'molue' and 'danfo' vehicles
Drumming to the ears of passengers
Greasing the palms or 'area- boys'

Lagos
The commercial engine of Nigeria
Drunk in the complexities
Of hustle and bustle

Lagos
City eaten up by traffic
Of drivers spitting fires
Of sweet and bitter curses

Lagos
Centre of excellence
Singing lullabies of greatness
With sickening roads and pot-holes.

'...Hustle and bustle'- - Lagos is the commercial heart of Nigeria bobbling with trade and commerce.
