Sweet Rain Poem by SylvaOnyema Uba

Sweet Rain

Rating: 4.4

The gentle breeze blew
And whispered
To the ears of the earth

Ice-cold water
Falling like sweet apple

On our bodies
Like melodic drum beats

Those crops will soon blossom
With the food of life

Those dry tongues
Will soon be wet

Sweet water
Walk proudly
On the face of the earth
Singing songs of salvation.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Sweet Rain was written in Lagos, Nigeria. I was inspired to write this poem after a long absence of rain in my vicinity. I was outside one fateful evening when suddenly the rain came with a large cool breeze and a heavy pour. I had to stay outside to be drenched by the rain so as to feel the sweetness and coolness of nature which was missed during the hot dry season.

'The gentle breeze blew And whispered To the ears of the earth' and blew over the skin of the ground I have always loved the whisper of the wind before it rains, let the sweet rain fall :)

Those crops will soon blossom With the food of life This shows how important rain is to the growth of plants and food production.
