Lamentations Poem by Michael J Williams

Lamentations

I can't believe I'm in this position
The world has gone insane
My family is my only comfort …
and my greatest source of pain

The burden put before us…
The sacrifice is so intense
The consequences of our actions,
We realize now, are truly quite immense

Can we weather the storm before us?
Can we bear the loss to come?
What mistakes will we make, to find some light,
before the war is won?

We look to leaders, to guide us through this fray
They're nothing more than aged schoolboys
who play at verbal fisticuffs,
they have no moral aptitude, each wanting his own way

We feast on anecdotal theories, laced with toxic ill intent
And nod our heads in agreement, so we don't offend
There is no joy in cowardice or bullying, so
Please send a truthful hero… upon whom we can depend
