Laughter is an aphrodisiac.
I can no longer stand.
Age has dimmed my parodies.
To a light even moths ignore
Churls my blood to remember
How funny I once could be
How I could court the attention of the stars
Into acts of wanton submission
Laced with lots of alcohol
I could dance like Fred Astaire.
Smooth talk Ginger Rogers
Off the dance floor, to be fair.
But rarely did it lead anywhere.
Usually, I'd wind my way back home.
Drunk and alone, grinning ear to ear
But in the morning, I'd remember
The starring role of a Hollywood actress
And how I paid for her laughter, dear.
I can no longer stand the jollities.
Of Tinseltown, to be honest.
Now I'm sober, it only makes me frown.
Laughter, like anything, has to be sincere.
Foolhardy laughter has had its day.
I can no longer stand it's nonsense today.
