Oh leave the light on mummy,
I'm frightened in the dark,
I wee-weed in my bed last night -
It's left an awful mark.
Please leave the light on mummy,
I want to hold my toys -
That wailing sound and all the bombs
Make such a scary noise.
I wish you'd leave the light on mum,
I'm frightened on my own -
I'm scared of all those big bad men,
Don't want to be alone.
And if you leave the light on mum
Then daddy might come back -
I know he had to go to war,
I saw him quickly pack.
******************************
You didn't turn the light on mum
When I heard you at the door,
So ‘I' then turned the light on ‘cos
I saw you on the floor.
And when you ‘left' the light on mum
I cried and cried and cried,
‘cos then I saw you crying too -
You said my dad had died.
So leave the light on mummy now,
Please stay with me tonight -
We'll cry our eyes out ‘til it's day,
And hold each other tight.
Please turn the light out mummy now,
I need the dark today -
Daddy's never coming home, and
The cry won't go away!
