Leaving Viewed From Staying Poem by Raj Dronamraju

Leaving Viewed From Staying

I stayed up to two in the morning
To hear her curse the name of California
The irresistible pull of family and the mirror that creates a faceless community
Take the bitter meaning, hold your nose and force it down

On behalf of a changed status and a suffering in public that mutes current agreements
What's true is this was a temporary visitation
Supergirl in half and now the whole will be reunited
Bring me the flying excuse and I'll make something liveable out of it

I'll select the proper mode of transport for one whose sweetness has long since been drained, strained out for the purpose of relocation
I get the need for upheaval but the very meaning of change stops going backwards

I awoke at two in the morning
When seen from afar, a neighbor's outside lights look like the headlights of some huge spacecraft
Upcoming alone time is eerie, unsettled, the possible father of weird unethical acts
The bond provides for no choice, a family is not a choice
In early morning disquiet, I'll break free from impassive observation
