He loved playing football
He believed for him that was God's call,
And he would play or watch it everyday
To be part of a team he swore he would someday.
He started playing it in his youth with other lads
Wearing a helmet and shoulder pads,
He believed it's the greatest sport there ever was
With football he fell in love.
He practiced and trained so very hard
In the field and in the park and in his own backyard,
One day he wanted to be a college player
That then became his daily prayer.
One day he fell in love once again
But, not in a sport, but with a girl with a grin,
They had classes together in their high school
She then quickly became his jewel.
As a spectator she went to his every game
In support and love she would always cry out his name,
She would boast of his speed and of his brawn
She would always cheer him on.
One day he received a letter in the mail
It was from the university of Yale,
To their college they were giving him a free ride
There to play football with honor and pride.
He then told his girlfriend to go to Yale with him
She then gave him a look of sadness and grim,
She said her or her family didn't have that much dough
Then he said without her, he would not go.
Then she bowed her head and she began to cry
Finally then she explained to him just why,
With tears in her eyes she said she fell in love with another
She found someone else to love her.
With his heart broken he then decided to leave
He headed to the university with greatest to achieve,
He knew that one day he would be the greatest footballer
One day with pride his name everyone would holler.
Months past and with football and his academics he was doing great
He was happy his destiny was this glorious fate,
Then he heard a soft knock on his dorm door
Then a note was pushed on the floor.
Lee carefully and nervously opened the note
He was confused and worried what in it was wrote,
Then the note as he slowly read
And this is what the note had said.
(Hey Lee! I am so very sorry on how everything ended
But, I am glad college you have attended,
And I am so very sorry what had occurred between us
I'm sorry about the situation which I would never discuss.
To you and your heart I was always there and true
To finally be honest, I never ever cheated on you,
I made up the whole story so you would chase your dreams
Which was playing college football while the fans screams.
That was a once in a lifetime opportunity and chance
I could never be apart of that dance,
You being happy was always my only plea
I still miss you so very much, and be great Lee!)
