Lend Me A Blanket Poem by Nassy Fesharaki

Lend Me A Blanket

Lend me a blanket

Want to wear Moccasins
And put on a buck coat
And hold my two braids
As my guides…

Want to walk through the
Prairies or crawl on four
In the rugged mountains that
Sheltered my ancestors;
They ran for somewhere safe
Chose refuge from the invaders…

Lend me a blanket
Made of leaves,
Made of wool or
Made of cotton or
Of mohair; not plastic…

Want to sleep tight and
Away from the madness
Of these crazy rulers…

Want to run away from
The greedy money lovers,
Power lovers
And the pretenders of
Faiths, science
And knowledge;
They are empty as is a balloon
And stink like the worst swamp…

Lend me a blanket…

Want to wrap me in it
To be my casket
And my grave
And my cover from shame
Of being a member of
The stupid that rules this world!

Lend me a blanket, please.
