Leonard Cohen Poem by Gerhardus Keen

Leonard Cohen

Just a poet trying to write a song
‘bout love and life or just about everything
the good, the evil, the right and the wrong
in fact it's about all the things I've heard and seen
I hope I can write a memorable one
just like my hero Leonard Cohen
I fell in love with his Suzanne
and also So Long, Marianne
but the song that was as beautiful as a dove
was Dance Me To The End Of Love
a poet, a novelist and songwriter by name
and still very humble in spite of his fame
if I could be only half as great as him
what wonderful songs I would sing
in a hateful world filled with unnecessary violence
I teared up when you recited Paul Simon's Sound Of Silence
the world is much poorer now you are gone
your life is just one big unsung song
your name will forever be remembered by all
I bet in heaven you're having a ball
when we talk about great writers and they ask do you know one
I can proudly say yes his name was Leonard Cohen
