Les Autres.(Translation) . Poem by Michael Walker

Les Autres.(Translation) .

O rares personnes impuissants dans mon pays,qui restent asservis!

Des artistes rompus contre le pays,
Egares, perdus dans les villages,
Mefies, reprouves,

Des amants debeaute, affames,
Contraries des systemes,
Impuissants contre le controle;

Vous qui ne pouvez vous fatiguer
En persistant aux succes,
Vous qui ne pouvez que parler,
Vous qui ne pouvez vous armer de courage de reiterer;

Vous qui avez le sens plus fin,
Rompu contre le faux savoir,
Vous qui pouvez connaitre de premiere main,
Hais, enfermes, mefies;

Pensez:
J'ai survecu la tempete,
J'ai battu mon exil.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Read Poem Hunter/ Ezra Pound/ Poems/ 223/250. You will not be disappointed.
One of Ezra Pound's most significant poems, largely autobiographical, addressed to his fellow-writers ('the rest') , who have stayed in the U.S., while he has emigrated to England then Europe. He pities the American writers, who are living in a Philistine country, where beauty and art are not appreciated. Pound is in exile because of his anti-American and pro-Fascist radio broadcasts before and during World War II: he was punished by the U.S. Government and Army by being imprisoned in a small cell in Pisa, Italy, for the duration. Pound was a man of great spirit when he was under oppression; he did not break down under stress, he saw it through. 'I have weathered the storm/ I have beaten out my exile'. Inspirational.
