Lesson Learned Poem by Ashley Perkins

Lesson Learned

In this life, I’ve learned a lot of things,
never knowing what your going to get,
or what people may bring.
They promise to love you and they promise to care,
and in a split second their not there.
You see a person who seems so true, not even knowing what your getting into.
Love is an action, with passion and desire,
you turn around and hate puts out that ring of fire.
You need to be loved, just as much as you give,
remember there’s only one life to live.
It’s yours, turn it into something great,
it’ll never be perfect,
cause everyone makes mistakes.
We all long for something so pure, our heart tells us to wait,
it’s too much to endure.
We fall in the pit, never know when our lights going to go out.
We look up and there’s a man walking about.
Is this him? Is this darkness getting lighter?
I see his face and my whole world gets brighter.
Just as I thought it was just a fake,
now there are choices and decisions I have to make.
