Let's Runaway Poem by April Humason

Let's Runaway

I tried to run the other way,
When I heard the words You chose to say.
Bought a ticket, set the sail,
Thought distance might make fear grow pale.

Wind was calm, or so I thought,
Till waves revealed the war I'd fought.
Running fast from holy ground,
Chasing silence I never found.

I slept below the wooden deck,
While storms above began to wreck.
A world I tried to leave behind
Was roaring louder in my mind.

"Who are you? " the sailors cried,
As lightning split the anxious sky.
It wasn't them — it was my fear,
That tried to drown what I could hear.

So I whispered truth into the storm,
"I am the one from whom I'm torn."
Thrown into mercy's raging sea,
Still somehow — You reached for me.

In the belly of the deep I prayed,
Not because I was brave, but afraid.
"I ran from light, I fled Your hand,
But still You knew where I would land."

Three dark nights, a heart undone,
Not by waves — but by the Son.
And when I rose from broken sand,
I walked back toward the calling plan.

I thought I'd run away from You,
But grace was chasing all I knew.
I couldn't drown, I couldn't flee,
Because Your mercy found me.
