Letter To God Poem by Jade Leven

Letter To God

Rating: 3.0

Dear God,
I've never believed in you
and no one can change it
so why am I writing to you
when I don't even think you exist?
I don't know
but all I know is
if you are there
you created an amazing world
but why so much pain?
why so much suffering?
is it necessary?
is there even a reason?
and do you ever get lonely?
I don't think many people even go to heaven these days
they're either cheating or lying
killing or complaining, hurting or crying
it all makes me wonder
did you mean for it to be this way?
did you want people to be hungry?
did you want forests to be cut down?
did you want airplanes to crash into buildings purposely?
did you want us to fight and kill?
or get AIDS?
or send missiles?
or die of cancer?
or be judged because we're different?
God, if you wanted to create something,
then why would you let it be destroyed?
I'm sorry, but I wonder why every day
millions of people worship you
when we don't know...
when we don't know anything
do you know why we don't know anything?
because we can't even see what we're doing to ourselves
so why believe in you?
we don't know
and now it's too late
and there's too much pain in the world
to ever find out if you exist
I know you won't answer me
you never answer anyone
but maybe you're listening
and maybe you can change things a little
maybe not for me
but maybe for a child soldier in Africa
maybe for a homeless man in New York City
maybe for a deer in Oregon
maybe for a poor farmer in California
maybe for a starving artist in Paris
maybe for anyone, anywhere in the world
you would change something
maybe for a rock in a stream
or for a falling leaf in the autumn breeze
or for a pencil that's never been used
for anything, living or not
you would change something
and maybe you won't even try
but I will.

i've always loved this poem, but was never quite sure what to say about it. not because of religious reasons, but because it makes you wonder why God would destroy His own creation. the poem is truthful and heartfelt. that's what i've always admired about you and your writing. love ya :)

Wow, i love this poem alott! ! and i totally agree with it. I belive in God but these days its just so hard. Why is the world this way? Why doesnt he answer what we say? The part thats so confusing is we supposably never know untill we die. And then if there is no heaven....then what? Is it too late? Anyways great poem, wright back. -Meghan Rhy.
