Li Bai: I Raise My Cup To The Moon, Me, And Own My Shadow, We're People Three

With The Moon Drinking Alone No.1 (of 4)
- Li Bai
- Translated by Frank C Yue

Among the flowers, a pot of wine,
I drink alone, no friends I can find.
I raise my cup to the Moon, Me,
And my own Shadow, we're people three!
But drinking the Moon could not entertain,
The shadow only follows me in vain.
For now, their company I am keeping,
We'll have a timely Spring merry making.

While the verses I'm reciting,
The Moon is loitering.
I dance, I swing and fling round and round -
My Shadow is scattered all around.
When sober, we're happy together,
When drunk, each of us go on our own way.
Let's embark on our journey forever,
Someday, we will meet again in the Milky Way.
