License To Rime

Strictly, 'rime' is 'frost',
but a poet can use it
for 'a sprinkling of sugar' -
'... of talcum powder' as well -
'... of dandruff' too I suppose -
and grey volcanic ash.

Patrick White says 'a slight, white rime'
comes from crushing well
a paper nautilus shell.
