Round and round and fast and forward
Steady balancing on either side
Swaying, speeding, not a coward
This is your one and only ride
Cycle Cycle, turning at the feet
Hands on the bar or up in the air
A greeting smile when strangers meet
A ring of the bell to say: I'm here!
But if you take a wrong turn
Or in your tyre you find a hole
Maybe you crash as you're trying to learn
Get up; dust yourself and take back control
This is your bike and the owner is you
One paddle is for people, one is for progress
The wheels might get worn out while the tube is new
The cog gives you problems, these are yours to address
The road gets rough, just tie the lose parts with string
The chain needs oil, the water bottle runs dry
You swallow hard and just keep peddling
Then a steep hill comes up and you wish to fly
yes it is, and we are the ones who shoild control it even though sometimes we fail to, nice poem.
thank you all for the encouraging comments, i appreciate all your lovely comments
too many good poems are getting written by too many good writers. and you are one of them.beautifuly written, life is a bi cycle. just like freedy mercury of queen had written i want to ride a bi-cycle.
a steep hill comes up and you want to fly - why not, give the bicycle wings and you will get to the top. You just have to find the wings. As the character played by Willie Smith says in the movie, Chase, any woman can be swept off her feet, you just have to find the right broom.
I thought this was creative and it had a very good ending with a challenge that the framework of the bicycle was not prepared for. It is for the man in the end to do the deed. GW62
