Life Is A Great Adventure/ I Never Quite Had Poem by Shalom Freedman

Life Is A Great Adventure/ I Never Quite Had

LIFE IS A GREAT ADVENTURE/ I NEVER QUITE HAD

Life is a great adventure
I never quite had
The great distance
The going out to conquer in the long space
The facing of the villains and evil
The fighting through the pain and suffering to the greatest victory
All this was never mine
My adventure was quiet inside
A long loneliness with words
An inner searching for a dream I could not create

I missed so much
And conquered nothing and no one
I did love
I did find a way of giving in my own small way
To my people

But I was not much in the great order of things
No great adventurer no great hero

Life was nonetheless I suppose
My own small adventure
Going on and on as I do now
Dreams and more dreams
Words and more words
The music of a page
The inner distance too ever receding
And the world-to- come deep in question
And the adventure of just being here
In the unknowing of the everyday
And the uncertain steps going on and on
Until all will be terribly changed
And nothing but the silence remain.
