Life Penalty Poem by Shakira Nandini

Life Penalty

Rating: 5.0

A 100 year old woman was raped
The entire Holy land is ashamed after reading this news
The eyes which had dreamt about a bright and developed Holy Land
Seeing this future, the heart is full of pain and the mind is fearful

A 100 year old woman was raped
The entire Holy land is ashamed after reading this news
The hands which could have been comforted by the young
A mother for whom every child was dear
Her old, weak body was mishandled

A 100 year old woman was raped
The entire Holy land is ashamed after reading this news
It is futile to be educated or be called an Indian as I read this news today
The moment such a heinous crime was committed in a sector of the land of spirituality

A 100 year old woman was raped
The entire Holy land is ashamed after reading this news

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
This poem has been written after reading the painful news of a 100 year old woman raped by a drunk youth in Uttar Pradesh. It is unfortunate that Indian value system is no more given importance by youth. The disastrous impact of alcohol on human intellect is clearly demonstrated via this incident. It is also a sorry state of affairs for law, ethics and morality in India. I feel ashamed to read such a news story in India.
