Life's Shore Poem by Pragya Deb Burman

Life's Shore

Rating: 4.5

Lost in the waves of time,
I watch the wild sea surge back & forth,
Bruising this very being of mine,
Against the craggy rocks;
Awakening me to the jagged edges
Of a perilous life,
So wrought with strife.

Sweet pain-
Each wound makes me strong enough,
To mock and bear the cold rain
Pouring mercilessly over my stained face;
Silently, I watch the tide rough-
The ridge casting an eerie shadow,
Posed against a forbidding horizon;
But these no longer bring me woe-
As my dawn ended aeons ago.

And so I will tread the sandy path,
Against a sombre sky-
My life's been a blood bath,
But this time, I know I will survive.
Sometime, somewhere,
The tides will ebb low
And guide me into gentler raptures;
I'll see the moonlight fair
Dancing over the waters, in the twilight glow.

Someday-
Like a passion pure & ethereal
With the tidal sway,
My sunken prints on the sand,
These white waves will rinse away;
So real, yet so illusory
Disappearing with each tide...
This ocean floor laden
With memories, so like my life;
If this be called a Life?
And so I wait-
But the waiting never ends.
