No spring prevails ever, nor its green reign,
From grass I try and learn raw persistence,
From trees the value of quiet patience,
That winter's wellness withers not in vain.
If eyes I have, if I have ears to learn,
No garden by frostbite is too deterred,
Nor yet by spring is unduly flattered,
Nature teaches me so at every turn.
Fondest love doth spring from a feeling heart,
There's summer we aught know in all winter,
As winter in the heart of all summer,
To see goodness in evil shows fine art.
Spring there's or autumn else, good or evil,
Time passeth forth in Nature's turning wheel.
