Light Could Be Deceptive

Rating: 5.0

We are deceived...it is the light
Which casts the shadows
Where dreaded things wait.
The sun is not our protector nor
Salvation against the night...
It is light which causes evil to
Deeper hatred...more complete
Plans to enact.

Who is the third who walks
Beside us...laughing at the
Light...laughing at the dark.
Laughing, finding humor in
Mortal dancers who fear the
Last chord, last note...last
Closing of the door.

In acknowledgement is power.
We fear dust. We fear ashes.
Our third dances with
Eternity...
Has taught the steps to
Me.

Well, I'll see and laugh and dance, for awhile; in time I'll fall... no big deal - I've done that before. (What do I call it, when light becomes so ultimately bright so as to become the dark?) My own rhetorical ramblings aside, this poem is both a magnificently formed poetic statement, and an 'index finger poke to the sternum' challenge. I'm sure that the fruit will still yield after the twentieth press; 'Cogito, ergo sum', so I read on... . Finely crafted in an inimitable style, from my perspective, this is something to be savored, neither bitter nor sweet.

This one is Othello about to kill his beloved Desdemona 'Put out the light. And then, put out the light'. Or perhaps Gibran on laywers who see the sun as, 'a caster of shadows'. As one who comes from the theatre, I know well the power and drama of lighting. This piece is awesome. You take your reader to the brink, to the edge of life, while your third man (or woman) laughs... love, Allie xxxx
