Like Autumn Leaves Poem by Loraine Lotter

Like Autumn Leaves

Rating: 3.0

As the last of the leaves dropp to the ground,
in brilliant shades of golden brown,
and the wind picks up and stings your skin,
and the night sky calls the coldness in,
will you take a moment and remember me
when my name went down in history,
when I carried the frontline and took the lead,
and then fell down like an Autumn leaf.

Stand and envision the warpath as it unfolds
in front of your eyes, acknowledge the menace it holds.
Watch my friends, mere men among the mass
taking a risk for everything they have,
bearing the burden, the force of the blow,
for the sake of their children, their last bit of hope.

So remember us when we soldiered on
and marched as the gunshots echoed at dawn,
and roared a moment too late, on the verge of defeat,
for the defenders, the heroes, the kings and the queens,
for our leaders, our kingdom, our homes, our country,
for the blood lost in combat when our spirits took no heed,
for the ones who stood tall, determined to succeed,
warriors in battle, like you and me,
who stood and took the fall like Autumn leaves.
