Like Outside My Life Is Dark (Italian Sonnet) Poem by Gert Strydom

Like Outside My Life Is Dark (Italian Sonnet)

I come with faith in love and liberty
while outside there falls thunder-bolts blue-white,
they do branch and light-up the stormy night,
the earth smells with promise of what is to be.

There is separation between you and me
and at heart I do long to put things right.
Without you I have no future in sight,
like outside my life is dark. I cannot see.

Storm-clouds hover, hurtle and cover the sky
while shadows appear in the moon's dim haze,
now and then light with the thundering din.
This is like the marriage between you and I.
I long for time together in sunny-days
for you at heart there is still love within.
