The walls shine with brilliance,
polished to perfection,
reflecting everything except what matters.
There is space to move,
but nowhere to go.
The door is open,
yet the steps feel to heavy to take.
Comfort wraps around like velvet,
soft against the skin,
but tight around the soul.
Outside, the wind calls--
wild, uncertain, free--
but here, the silence is safe,
predictable,
unchanging.
A golden cage glitters,
but gold cannot warm the heart,
nor feed the hunger
for something real.
