Looking At Old Photos Poem by Shalom Freedman

Looking At Old Photos

Rating: 5.0

How much I have lived
That I do not remember
Even myself I see
As me and not me
Moments of smiling happiness together
Completely forgotten
A life lived and largely gone

And I as I am now
Also a passing moment
And what will be
When the face I have now
Has been lined more by time
And no one will know
And no one will see
The face I am now
Forever not here.

A look-back in nostalgia may bring momentary relief but leaves a pain to reconcile. 'A life lived and largely gone'

A hard look at the life and harsh reality " When the face I have now. Has been lined more by time" reflecting on old age and perhaps the void, we will all be facing. Great poem.
