Looking For The Sunshine Poem by Pearl L Johns

Looking For The Sunshine

My day at work is over.
It has been a long one.
People rushing, shoving and pushing in lines.
To try to get that last toy.

I am so tired.
My feet are sore and it seems no one has the time
To just smile and say have a good day.
Where has the sun gone?

Money and greed seem to be
The ruler of the day.
Not joy in simple pleasures
Where has the sun gone?

I walk up the steps of the church
I hear the crunch of the ice under my feet.
I pull open the heavy door
And step into the sunshine warmth of the church.

I kneel down at the altar
And I bow my head to pray.
I feel kind hands upon my shoulders
And a voice that seems to say.

Take heart my child
Things are not as bad as they seem.
I feel the warmth spread into my heart.
But when I turn my head no one is there.

I leave with a lighter heart
And a softer tread upon my way home.
No longer wondering where the sun has gone.
It is still here, deep in my soul.
