Loosen Some Of The Tension Poem by Mark Heathcote

Loosen Some Of The Tension

I'm just trying to loosen some of the tension
before the butterflies fly and take their final leap,
cast aside their chains and find
their wings on the brink of survival.

Tinctured rainbow wings
always float higher than expected.
Like the children dancing in the street,
listening to their souls.
And can't sit down because life is play,
play to the sound of bells and choirs,
choristers singing at midnight
filled with sorrow and dread not to die alone.
Oh, and try as I might, I might still cry.
Cry over a tinctured rainbow anyway.
