Words drift between us,
shaped by tongues that do not touch.
A sentence, bent by the weight of meaning,
lands soft, yet different-
a shadow of what was intended.
Your eyes ask a question
my language cannot answer.
I reach for understanding,
but it shifts like light on water,
never still, never mine to hold.
Silence settles between syllables.
Maybe here, in the space between,
we finally hear each other.
