Love Before First Sight

I want you to fight my brother
Make sure you don’t surrender
when the devil attacks
I’d rather you don’t come in contact
I can tell you what he has to offer:
Eternal pain in exchange for asinine monetary gain
And believe me when I tell you his cancer is not benign
He doesn't carry a gun
But he is known to take away lives
A lot of brothers have gone
Leaving behind sisters and wives
Forced to be mothers of lonely daughters
Wild brothers, tamed as sons without fathers
Don’t get me wrong these are no orphans
They are born strong
Grew up with their fathers at their front
But they weren't in front of their fathers
Cuz their fathers were never there
And when they called their fathers couldn't hear
They were busy being on call at the office
And this complication is not an orifice
It has an extension, it’s like a mouth piece
These wild and strong brothers
Grow up to become fathers
Except the only thing they know about fatherhood
Is that you’re never there
But Thank God for the gift of mothers
Who are always there
And always answer when their kids call
Didn't teach how to ball
But taught more important things
Like how to talk to elders
And how to walk with friends
I don’t know where I would be if it wasn't for my mother
She armed me to breakdown borders
Held me by the arm as I crossed the border
And I am here still crossing borders
One semester at a time
Along the way I learnt to pen down rhymes
So I had to do one for her
I do appreciate my father for all that his done
But you see my mother is my sun
She is the source of my energy
Don’t be afraid to say it aloud if you agree
All I want to do with my life is make her proud
And to the sisters if you become wives
Don’t ever think that you can replace a man’s mother
Even if he fell in love with you at first sight
He might be like me
I believe in love before first sight
Because I fell in love with my mother
Before I opened my eyes for the first time.
