Love Hurts Poem by Matt Starking

Love Hurts

Love is a flame that burns so bright,
It fills us with joy and delight,
But as time passes on and on,
It often leaves us feeling alone.

When we fall in love, our hearts are free,
We give ourselves so willingly,
And though it can be sweet and pure,
It can also be a pain so sure.

We yearn to be with the ones we love,
To hold them close, like a dove,
But sometimes the love we share,
Is tinged with sorrow and despair.

Like thorns upon a rose so sweet,
Love can hurt us, make our hearts skip a beat,
It can bring us to our knees,
And leave us weakened, begging please.

The pain of love can be so real,
It can shatter us, make us feel,
As though our hearts will never heal,
As though the hurt will never leave.

But in the end, we must believe,
That love will find a way to relieve,
The pain we feel, the hurt we bear,
So we can love again, and dare.

To take a chance, to let our hearts be free,
To let love be, as it was meant to be,
For though it hurts, it's worth the risk,
To find the ones we love, and kiss.
