Love Is Poem by soren Barrett

Love Is

Love is a child's expected storybook ending,
the smoking romance of an adolescent's first kiss,
a blazing fire of sexual desire,
the steady slow burn of years of predictability's bliss.

It is the satisfaction of being chosen,
the fear of loss and sting of jealousy,
a timid hesitation, being frozen,
complete and total ecstasy,

It's tears of betrayal, to keep trust in someone when they fail,
the ability to forgive, the lust to live,
It is blindness to imperfection and the acceptance of one without correction.
learning that receiving is not as good as it is to give,

It is knowing that one does not control one's heart or that of another,
It is the expectation that pain comes with joy.
It is to see an enemy as a brother.
and the despair when your most dear one you destroy

A suicidal sacrifice of one's own desires and individuality.
not needing to speak the playfulness of hide and seek
Built on the foundation of trust and security
valuing something else more than yourself, it's maturity

Love is the child of hope and empathy and the mother of peace.
Life's breath it knows no death
It is the ashes and residue of all these.
