Love Is An Empty Promise Poem by Donald R Wolff JR

Love Is An Empty Promise

Sometimes a smile can be deceiving
Painful recollections held deep inside
It is for reason not yet discovered
A reason to wonder why

How can the charming make a promise
Then pretend to set love free
Take away what was so perfect
Like it was never meant to be

In a smile so misplaced
Therein was Heaven only seen
Now the pain so unbelieving
Is as empty as once dreamed

Who can live without their lover
Who can love and move along
How can it become so informal;
To sing that one last, loving song

Maybe we are pretenders
Or maybe there are no magic fantasy's
Perhaps love is only chased by dreamers
Maybe never given free

From the time there was a sunset
When Adam once loved Eve
Love was always punished;
Just for loving what we need

We can keep the days before, Us
Love shall always be our everything
Every daydream ever promised;
Is, Make Believe
