Let this world be for ever beautiful!
When the wind blows fierce and heartless,
Guns laugh and cannons boom
And humanity sink,
My heart sinks
It goes out to the millions of men, women and children, animals,
And birds hanging so precariously in the air.
Tears fall from my eyes
My heart full of prayers,
For those are the ones when it is quiet
And the sun shines, the sky is blue,
Those are the ones who make me happy.
I think of man and his robust will to survive the odds
And I feel proud of myself.
I think of the birds in the sky
Singing happily, careless of tomorrow
And in the village wood busily making nests.
I thrill to the colours of sunset
And sunrise too, and the turquoise sea
The crazy plunge of the waterfalls on the rocks below.
And thank the Lord for them.
I think of the stars at night
And the oceans of golden moonlight kindling the dark space,
And I think of the tender blooms that delight the hearts of the restless valleys
And I ask myself whatwould the world be without them?
I praise the Lord for not condemning us to a parched wasteland
Or some insentient desert?
I rejoice in their companionship
And in the thousand little joys
That make this place the heaven we are unwittingly letting down.
