Lovers From Long Ago Poem by Joyce Hemsley

Lovers From Long Ago

He was a 'Sir'...
Love took over his body
Midsummer madness affected his mind
Brought him right down to his knees
Made him say 'please'
With a kind of weakness inside.
Love took him up to a blue sky
Love made his heart wonder why
Was it 'much to do about nothing'?
Would she wear his ring?
Dreams sent his temperature high.

She was a 'Lady'...
Love gave her eager emotions
Couldn't say 'no' if she tried
Ever to possess him
Never to live without him
Longing to be an Adonis bride.
Their love could alter a lifetime
Confusion at each doubtful sign
But Shakespeare said 'listen to me:
Love will be, let it be
For midsummer madness is blind'.
