Our northern tour started
With the city of Lucknow
Also known as pearl of Awadh
On the banks of river Gomati.

It's flamboyant capital
Of the state of Uttar Pradesh
With historical connection
To Ayodhya, Mughals, and nawabs.

Architecture's interesting
Almost all're built in Awadhi style
Using bricks known as lakhori
Each 10cm x 15cm and 19mm thick.

Several buildings like Residency're
In a ruined state yet with great features
Some like Bada Imambara and Chota
Are intact with renovations in progress.

Chikan kari is unique hand embroidery
It's delicate work on clothing for folks
The art attracts many tourists who buy
And appreciate the great variety on display.

With good air, rail, and road connections
And produced goods, agriculture, and services
Lucknow's a thriving place with parks and attractions
It invites one and all to visit, relax, learn and enjoy.
