Lunar Christmas Eve Poem by Ima Ryma

Lunar Christmas Eve

On Christmas Eve in '68
Into a lunar orbit went
Three Earthlings in Apollo 8,
Truly a great travel event.
And the travelers took a snapshot
Of Earth rising over the moon,
A postcard sent that showed a lot
Of time and place so opportune.
The marbled beauty of the Earth
Leaping from the darkness of space,
A picture of eternal worth
For all humanity to face.

Yes, a moment to celebrate,
And the future to contemplate.
