Major Oak Sherwood Forest Poem by Sheena Blackhall

Major Oak Sherwood Forest

Rating: 5.0

A thousand years old, Major Oak has stood
A natural wonder of astounding size
The ruling monarch of ancient Sherwood

Its trunk's ten meters wide, both stout and good
Kings hunted when this sapling did arise
The canopy is vast, an emerald hood

How many people has this monarch viewed?
A lusty lover, slipped between maid's thighs
A pilgrim, friar, a nun, a barren prude

Could this oak speak, then by the Holy Rood
His anecdotes could open many eyes
Telling of Tudor intrigue, outlaw's brood

Here Vikings trysted, archers arrowed food
Here Diamond spiders' cobwebs captured flies
And seasons fled, each with a changing mood
And every day some fresh delight, surprise
What if this oak could write…what if it could?
Tell tales of Richard, and of Robin Hood

A touching and haunting expression has been made on a thousand years old, Major Oak. The last stanza is much impressive. Thanks for sharing.10
