Many Good People Poem by Francis Duggan

Many Good People

So many good people serving prison time
For speaking out against undemocraticallyelected autocratic governments their only crime
Loss of freedom and ill treatment is their price for to pay
For daring to speak in public what their minds tells them to say
In prison destined for to grow old and gray
The brave unsung heroes of the Human World of today
Because their true feelings in public they expressed
They are in prison for speaking out for the oppressed
Many of them for speaking out for human rights are put to death
And in prison many of them draw their last living breath
Yet most of them from history are allowed for to fade
And in their honour there never is a street parade
They are in prison on death row or serving years of time
For speaking out for the oppressed their only crime.
