Marriage Poem by Aparna Chatterjee

Marriage

Nothing is
Common
Between us
Except the
Bed we share
The children
We rear…
And the home
That houses
Our conjugal
Despair.

Yet we care
As marriage
Is a burden
You need to
Share…
Or
Parents will say:
Don’t you dare!
The world knows
You as a lovely pair!

(attuned to Ghar Ghar Ki Kahani in our Indian social milieu)
