Mask Of Happiness Poem by Virginia Williams

Mask Of Happiness

Rating: 4.5

What would happen if one day I just stopped caring?
What if one day I just gave up?
What would happen if I just hid all my feelings?
What if I put on a permanent mask of happiness?
Would it kill me? ...
Or...
Would it save me? ...

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
I wrote this poem when I was dealing with depression. During this time in my life I was always sad and always had to put on a fake smile. This poem explains what a person with depression feels on a daily basis. When you have depression you always have to remind yourself to put on that fake smile everyday, because if you don't no one will leave you alone. When you are smiling no one ever thinks anything is wrong, but when you frowning everyone wants to know what's wrong. When the poem asks if the mask will kill me or save me it is referring to if anyone will help me. With the mask on no one will ask me what's wrong and I won't get any help, possibly killing me in a way. With the mask off everyone is asking me what's wrong and trying to help me, saving me in a way.

Smile and the world smiles with you. A well articulated train of thoughts insightfully penned. Smile and take things in stride, it's good for emotional wellbeing. A lovely poem indeed. Thanks for sharing. Please read my poem MANDELA - THE IMMORTAL ICON. ➕9

A very deep poem, Virginia. We all wear masks at times and don't know if they are helping or hurting. Thanks for sharing. Peace
