May Day Poem by narayana aghalaya

May Day

GREETINGS TO WORKERS ON MAY DAY!

ENSURE WORKERS WELFARE
workers we salute
their hands built the Taj Mahal
by force that was brute
but beauty has no parallel
while time stands still, Taj stands tall

Pyramids too built
by thousands of dirty hands
but kings felt no guilt
against toil, revolt was banned
the testimony still stands

Army of workers
through their muscles, world seeks growth
no secret darker
than the one workers most loath:
their pay, while owners' purse bloats

the migrant workers
are in news in troubled times
as States are shirkers;
these hapless folks for no rhyme
none takes care; that is a crime

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
It is said than when the Taj Mahal was built by skilled workers, the Emperors was worried that the same workers might go and build something even more beautiful. To prevent that, he got their fingers chopped off. Look at the Pyramids. How many workers would have been injured and how many would have died? No records ate available. But we know the kings who got them built!
