May Day- Labour Day - Save Women From Exploitation In Gulf. Poem by Bernedita Rosinha Pinto

Labour day envisages that workers should not be exploited
neither should they be ever deprived of their rights
of fair wages and better working conditions
yet the aspect of safety of women's morality is most valuable;

as in the action of finding work and earning livelihood
to either feed their families or educate their children further,
women wander of away from their neighbourhoods and towns
and go to Gulf countries to increase their revenues.

Many women all over the world choose to rush and work
in Gulf countries either to have a stable income
or to satisfy their families and fulfill their expectations
even if the separation traumatizes her;

and as these women take up jobs in various streams
whether it is in the mall or in the bank
whether it is in the hospital or in the household,
they are often silently exploited or subjected
to torture and demands of their employers;

parents always encourage and focus
on having higher income and status,
so they even allow and encourage their unmarried daughters
to go to work in Gulf countries and live alone all by themselves;

and women who work as housemaids or as cleaners
are forced to do odd jobs and even yield to immodest demands
of their bosses who impose upon them their lust
as these women are either poor or unqualified
and so they are left to the mercy of those pay-masters;

Also qualified women don't hesitate to extend their favours
and please their bosses so that they gain proximity
and obtain extra financial support from their bosses
so that they can accomplish all their dreams and fantasies
which their poverty and status never permitted them;

But Gulf countries are so strong in their morale
that they respect their own woman so sincerely
that they traditionally require them to cover themselves
from head to foot to keep themselves away from harm's way
and from anyone else looking at them;

With similar respect for other women,
Gulf countries should stop hiring spinsters
and unmarried daughters from other countries
as these womenfolk fall helpless
when pleasure-seeking demands
are made by their employers
which they cannot resist
as, if they refrain they can lose their jobs;

and when such women and girls come back
to their native country, they lose their dignity
and they are never in a position to reveal or disclose
how much they have suffered or
how much they have been exploited at their workplaces
as they will lose their respect in the eyes of the society
and before their own family and relatives;

and though the world has been respecting
and marking the Labour day as significant for centuries,
the exploitation that goes on in those gulf countries
has never been rectified,
whether it is the labourers who are standing atop
the new construction sites,
or whether it is the housemaids who work tirelessly
from dawn to dusk,
or whether it is the belly dancers who rush
to display their talent and earn their monies
by displaying and gyrating their bodies immodestly,
or whether it is the unmarried daughters
from our villages and cities who work in those offices
in the Gulf and lure their bosses
with acts of immorality just to keep her job secure.

and though these kind of woman select to get exploited
and she forgets her right to safety and dignity,
it is the society that does not get fooled or forgets
the exploitation that an unmarried woman faces
as her parents grant her freedom to live and work freely.

So will the Labour Day ever perceive the plight
of such people in Gulf countries
and will such exploitation ever cease to exist
or will we think that Gulf nations are perfect venues
to earn big money that unmarried daughters
known as spinsters are also permitted to work there
though Gulf nations don't force them or call them
to come to their country and work as slaves
or as satisfiers of their whims and fancies.
