Measly Island

Replaced by 'belted', 'girt' is obsolete
almost everywhere but
in 'girt by sea' in our anthem.

Replaced by 'continent',
'island' is almost as obsolete,
for that tract holding 5 of Australia's states
and 2 of her territories.

Well, was almost as...until
we inferred from boat people drowning at sea,
that we
are measly islanders still.
