Meditation - Poem by Carol Ross

Something/someone hides inside me:
part of me, yet not me.
I found it/she/he
when exploring my mind
(my ‘root mind’)
during meditation.

previous inner visions:
a golden ball of light,
a swirling vortex of colours,
all inside my head,
failed to prepare me
for this.

I didn’t know about the other mind:
the root mind, at the heart.
I didn’t know who/what was waiting
had waited, apparently,
a long time.

I approached obliquely
and looked only sidelong
having been told
the root mind
is elusive.

I found a presence
without form, light or colour,
but radiating energy
and approbation.
he/she/it was pleased
to be found.

I was shivering when
the meditation ended.
this is all scary-exciting
and (now that I know)
a responsibility.
To communicate,
investigate:
what does
he/she/it
expect
of me?
