Mediterranean Meditations-11 Poem by Gunturk Ustun

Mediterranean Meditations-11

1

On a summer table, a slice of lemon cheesecake
In the company of a mug of black tea with lemon
And, sitting across from me in a hot rosy bikini
A young woman with lemon-colored hair and a sultry gaze

2

It's past midnight at the harbor
And the radiant Hunter's Moon
Illuminates in a spellbinding way
The rows of slumberous fishing boats

3

Following yesterday's heavy winter rain
Today, the first snow is falling in abundance
On the extensive renovation works
At the historic cruise terminal

4

A large family of hedgehogs
Seems strangely pretty pleased
To have been awakened from hibernation
By the deep, booming sound of ship horns

5

As it engaged in spirited conversations
With more and more seasoned mariners
The stormy Atlantic began to feel a profound envy
Toward the stormy Aegean Sea
For no particular reason

6

The Mediterranean in meditation on itself
And I, meditating on the Mediterranean
We are two old seafaring friends
Who have gotten along remarkably well
For more than six decades that have flown by
