Mediterranean Meditations-9 Poem by Gunturk Ustun

Mediterranean Meditations-9

Rating: ★4.0

1

A cool breeze rustles gently among the olive trees
Cheerful crickets chatter loudly, a train horn blares in the distance
Another Mediterranean night where time seems to stand still

2

Neither the ocean
Nor space
Nor the subconscious
Nor the uncertain future
That deep blue unknown
If it were mentioned in a poem
Then, according to the Mediterranean
It must surely be itself

3

As the old folks say
Sleep is sweeter than honey
Yet heavier than an axe
One need only experience
The long Riviera naps
On September afternoons
To see that they were right

4

Once again
Just like having recovered
From a long and enduring illness
With a burning desire to reinvent myself
I'm back to the deserted beach
I'm back to traveling on foot
I'm back to the crowded ferry terminal
I'm back to maritime travel
I'm back to the mysteriously ageless
And saved Aegean Sea
Those waters which are
Sometimes serene, sometimes stormy
Train travels can wait a little longer

5

Autumn scents
Aching old ferry
Amazing Aegean Sea
