Meet The Shakespeares Poem by Sheena Blackhall

Meet The Shakespeares

Alum, dog turd, piss, egg, lime
Shakespeare's father was a glover
Lambskin kid and deer he used
To fashion gloves of finest leather

His sister Joan lived by the shop
Her husband William was a hatter
His grandparents were farming stock
Well skilled in ancient yeoman matters

He married well, Anna Hathaway
A dowry, but eight years his elder
Left her at home to keep the house
To raise the children. Churn the butter

A London patron saw his worth
And fame and fortune quickly came
The Bard of Avon, playwright, poet
Puts other dramatists to shame
