Melody Magic Poem by Diana van den Berg

Melody Magic

The rain soft-drummed
its soothing heartbeat
in a lullaby hush
of whispered peace
on leaf and branch
in the shadowed reaches
of night’s grace;

and she knew the refrain
of its melancholy song
and she sang along
voicelessly
in reverence
of sweet, ancient sorrows
fingering every moonlit note
welcoming it
into the corners
of her frazzled soul;

and harmony
loosened and slow-flooded
her taut frame
and she became
the vessel
of the rain’s serenade.
