Melting Again Poem by Suzanne Hayasaki

Melting Again

What do you do
When the floor falls through
And the ceiling evaporates
And the walls melt away
Leaving you standing
In the blank space
Of your imagination?

What do you do
When the music stops
And the spotlight goes off
And you find yourself standing
Alone on a stage
Surrounded by props
In costume?

What do you do
When you realize that once again
You have been creating your reality
Out of “what should be’s”
Instead of grounding it
In what is?

Regroup!
Reassess the mess
You have nestled yourself into.
Retreat into the self that is real.
Refuse to look for excuses.
Refrain from placing the blame
Resist the temptation to rebuild!

And sit
In the center of this re-exposed emptiness
And remember that this is where you begin
And where you end
And everything else
Is irrelevant.
