Moon Viewing Poem by Suzanne Hayasaki

Moon Viewing

Rating: 4.9

I thought about viewing the moon last night,
Full and heavy as it hung in the sky,
But this year as the rice ripens
And the wind picks up
Carrying the scent of death
In its chilling path
I sat inside instead.

Heavy with my own sadness
Lethargic in my own misgivings
I shut myself off from the beauty of the present
And its fluid continuity with the past and future.

Today as the sun rises I tell myself
I will open my eyes
I will lift my chin towards the sky
I will empty my mind of my present fears
And open my soul to the Whole:

You cannot see me
But I envelop you.
You cannot control the events of your times
But you can live within them.

Billions have.
Billions will.

Give yourself over to the love you receive.
Let it pass through you to others.
Be a conduit for what you would amplify
And let the rest bend around you unabsorbed.

The world may rage in chaos.
The lunatics may rule.
But below that roiling turpid surface
Is the swirling eternal truth.

Heavy sadness gives agony in mind and anxiety remains within. Carrying the scent of death is so sad. The world may rage in chaos. Swirling eternal truth is wise ever. Having trust on God and realizing truth about life we can gain peace in mind. Brilliantly penned poem is shared here...10

... bend around you unabsorbed—nice, Suzanne. And I wonder, as I’m nearly done reading it myself, whether My Stroke of Insight is subtext for this poem. Have I ever mentioned or have you seen this little poem— Barn’s burned down. Now I can see the moon. Glen

Hi Glen, No, you haven't mentioned that poem. Is it yours? It sounds very much like something a zen monk would write!
